At Bigham Cable Construction, Inc., the Directional Drill Foreman oversees and leads drilling operations for underground telecommunications construction. This role serves as the on-site expert, guiding crews through safe, accurate, and efficient bore work while ensuring utility protection, compliance with project specifications, and consistent adherence to safety standards. The Foreman coordinates field activities, interprets engineering drawings, supports less experienced team members, and ensures equipment, site conditions, and workflow are properly managed from start to finish. This is a hands-on leadership position that requires strong technical knowledge, field awareness, and the ability to maintain productivity and professionalism in all weather conditions.

What you’ll do

  • Lead new site Job Safety Analysis and ensure all crew members follow safety procedures
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, prints, maps, and technical documents for OSP facilities
  • Draw prints or sketches and provide accurate field notes describing OSP conditions and facility placement
  • Safely operate and control all drilling equipment, locating systems, and related machinery to complete assigned tasks
  • Determine bore paths, locate existing utilities, and ensure proper utility protection throughout drilling operations
  • Utilize and maintain mud mixing systems to support safe and efficient bore work
  • Ensure accurate drilling, proper depth, and compliance with project specifications and customer standards
  • Schedule, maintain, and track equipment, tooling, materials, and perform thorough site setup and cleanup
  • Communicate professionally with property owners, resolve complaints, and document all work performed
  • Support and guide less experienced crew members to maintain productivity, safety, and work quality
  • Perform work in all weather conditions
  • Other duties as assigned

What you’ll need

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Authorization to work in the United States for this company
  • High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience
  • Valid state driver’s license (non-provisional) with an acceptable driving record
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement or willingness to obtain it
  • Ability to pass pre-employment screening
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience operating drill bore equipment in the telecommunications or construction industry
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, prints, and technical documents
  • Strong understanding of directional drilling practices, utility locating, safety protocols, and OSP environments
  • Ability to lead and support a drill crew in a field-based environment
  • Ability to routinely work with arms above shoulder level, in confined spaces, and in remote locations
  • Ability to routinely operate vehicles, drilling rigs, and heavy machinery
  • Ability to routinely squeeze, perform fine hand motions, bend, stoop, stand, walk, climb stairs, and lift more than 55 pounds
  • Ability to occasionally use ladders, keyboards, and a mouse
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions and variable outdoor environments
