As a Utility Locator, you’ll play a vital role in the first step of every successful project by making sure underground utilities are identified and marked accurately before construction begins. You’ll operate detection equipment, interpret utility maps, and mark underground utilities to help our crews dig safely and efficiently.

What you’ll do
- Operate detection equipment to accurately locate and mark underground utilities, following company standards and safety procedures
- Read and interpret utility maps, plans, and records to identify and mark underground facilities correctly
- Document and record all completed locates with accuracy and attention to detail
- Respond promptly and courteously to excavation notices and requests for locates
- Communicate effectively with excavators, utility representatives, and company staff to ensure safe and efficient work coordination
- Perform light digging by hand with a shovel when necessary to verify utility paths or depths
- Work safely in all weather and field conditions, maintaining a focus on quality and accuracy
- Be available to work overtime, travel as needed, and participate in on-call or after-hours rotations
What you’ll need
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Ability to pass pre-employment screening
- Authorized to work in the United States for this company
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent relevant work experience
- Valid state driver’s license (non-provisional) with an acceptable driving record
- Previous utility locating or underground construction experience preferred
- Routinely work independently outdoors and in remote areas
- Operate a vehicle and use detection equipment for extended periods
- Perform tasks involving bending, stooping, standing, walking, and lifting up to 55 lbs
- Use fine hand motions and maintain control of tools and locating equipment
- Occasionally climb stairs, use portable ladders, and work in confined spaces
- Comfortable working in all weather conditions and varying field environments
