The GIS System Architect is a strategic role responsible for the design, evolution, and enterprise-wide deployment of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to support core functions like planning, asset management, and field services with scalable, resilient geospatial capabilities. Key responsibilities include crafting the long-term strategic vision and roadmap, evaluating and procuring GIS technology, establishing technical governance and standards, maximizing system performance and scalability, and architecting seamless integration between GIS platforms and other critical enterprise systems (ERP, CRM, etc.).

What you’ll do
- Ensure alignment of proposed and existing systems architectures with organizational goals and objectives
- Lead technology initiatives across the portfolio, including oversight of technical activities and mentorship of team members
- Adhere to organizational standards and enterprise architecture initiatives, encompassing vision setting, research, training, and all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
- Deliver high-value technical support to the enterprise
- Guarantee that technical direction conforms to industry best practices and strategically positions the organization for future requirements
- Provide management with constructive feedback concerning issues and ideas identified within project teams
- Conduct research on emerging technologies and recommend solutions that enhance cost-effectiveness and system flexibility
- Design, develop, and supervise the implementation of integrated, end-to-end systems, as appropriate
- Document existing systems architecture and the technology portfolio; propose improvements or alternatives
- Develop, document, communicate, and enforce standards for systems and software
What you’ll need
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, GIS, or Engineering, or a minimum of 7 years of equivalent professional experience
- Demonstrated, extensive experience in developing comprehensive systems architecture plans
- Proven, direct involvement in gathering and analyzing business requirements
- Deep, fundamental understanding of information processing principles
- Proficiency with enterprise Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications, such as ArcGIS Enterprise
- In-depth technical knowledge of GIS systems and the principles of geomatics
- Strong competency in evaluating hardware and software solutions
- Successful track record in project planning and management
- Thorough knowledge of system design and implementation methodologies
- Experience in debugging, troubleshooting, and resolving complex system issues
- Clear comprehension of overarching organizational goals and objectives.
