At North Sky Communications, LLC, as a Locator, you are the first line of defense for our underground infrastructure. You will be responsible for accurately identifying and marking underground telecommunications, electrical, and other utility lines to ensure the safety of our construction crews and the public. This role requires a high degree of technical skill, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in various field conditions.

What you’ll do

  • Precision Locating: Use specialized electromagnetic sensors, ground-penetrating radar (GPR), and induction equipment to pinpoint underground utility lines.

  • Site Marking: Accurately mark the location of utilities using industry-standard color codes (paint and flags) in accordance with 811 "Call Before You Dig" requirements.

  • Blueprint Analysis: Interpret and analyze complex utility maps, blueprints, and G.I.S. data to verify existing infrastructure.

  • Documentation: Maintain digital records of all locates performed, including photos and detailed field sketches using company-provided tablets.

  • Communication: Coordinate directly with Project Managers, excavation crews, and property owners to discuss work zones and potential hazards.

  • Safety Compliance: Ensure all work is performed in compliance with OSHA standards and company safety protocols, including the setup of safe traffic control zones.

  • Misc.: Dig lightly with a shovel when necessary, Work overtime, travel, and perform on-call/afterhours responsibilities as needed and perform work in all weather conditions. Other task may be assigned.

What you’ll need

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Experience: 1–2 years of experience in utility locating or underground construction is preferred; however, we provide hands-on training for motivated candidates.

  • License: A valid State Driver’s License with a clean driving record (no provisional licenses). Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is highly preferred.

  • Tech Savvy: Proficiency with mobile apps, GPS technology, and digital reporting tools.

  • Physical Stamina: Ability to walk extensively over uneven terrain, bend, stoop, and lift up to 55 lbs routinely. You at times may work solo. You will work with arms above shoulder level, operate vehicle, squeeze, fine hand motion and use keyboard and mouse

  • Occasionally: use portable ladder, work in confined spaces and climb stairs. Other physical tasks may be involved.
