The position of Sr Manager Telecom within the structure of Pauley Construction is to manage a team of five to six managers or supervisors over various regions. The type of work would generally consist of dry utility installation and maintenance.

 

The position requires advanced knowledge of underground utility construction. The person for this position must have extensive experience scheduling crews, communicating progress reports to customers, dealing with various field issues and handling in-house financials. Individual must be computer proficient. Candidate must strive for excellent customer service by ensuring Pauley Construction and its splicing supervisors deliver quality work in a craftsman like manner every day.

What you’ll do

  • Assist other technical personnel in the performance of their duties when requested
  • Knowledge of bonding and grounding requirements of telecommunications plant
  • Extensive knowledge of fiber optics and copper cable.
  • Must be able to lead a team, managing various tasks, responsibilities and deadlines in a fast paced environment. 
  • Attends all in-house training and out-sourced training as adopted in the company policy.
  • Is responsible along with the Superintendent for all property owner complaints and personally investigates all complaints.
  • Assures 100% adherence to all company safety policies.
  • Must be able to meet production goals set forth by direct manager.
  • Communicate with customers regarding current jobs and project statuses.
  • Understand workload across 2 states and realign resources as necessary.

Additional qualifications 

 

  • Knowledge of local cable facilities and fiber networks
  • Background in a supervisory role.
  • Experience in Outside Plant telecom functions.
  • Experience in how to read and interpret outside and subscriber plant facility records and engineering schematic work prints.
  • Electronics training or experience that demonstrates knowledge of AC/DC theory.
  • Working knowledge of analog and digital transmission.
  • Knowledge of splicing fiber optic and copper cable.
  • Knowledge of bonding and grounding requirements of telecommunications plant.
  • Working knowledge of ISP/OSP fiber optics terminations in splicing products in regards to appropriate application.
  • Assist other technical personnel in the performance of their duties when requested.
  • Ability to work with paper/pulp splicing, tagging and restoration.
  • Ability to distinguish between different cable types (i.e., telecommunication, electrical, fiber, CATV, etc.)
  • Ability to build cable records, cut sheets and as-builts.
  • Working knowledge of various test (Sidekick, 965 meter, DSP’s Exfo digital meter, Throw-master, OTDR’s
  • Knowledgeable on all test equipment used to identify and locate optical and copper faults (OTDR/VFL and power meter operation)
  • Knowledge of and connect bulkheads, splice trays, organizers, furcation kits and storage units.
  • Ability to maintain and repair entire telephone loop/facilities.
  • Ability to build span lines, install repeaters and perform tagging and testing functions on cable pairs to meet HDSL requirements.
  • Ability to understand various electronic fiber mux and equipment.
  • Proficient at working in aerial and buried outside plant environment Responsible for staffing, training and performance of employees which can include working with Human Resources to recruit, onboard, train, coach, discipline and terminator employees.
  • Other aspects of this role may require the position to assist in budget related discussions, meet with customers and contractors to discuss work and contract details and work with the executive team on other related matters.

  • Ability to make common sense understanding to carry out instructions that are provided in written, oral or drawing. Ability to deal with and understand problems involving different variables in many varied situations involving employees, customers, vendors and the public.

 Mathematical Skills:

 

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts (measurements in terms of distance, proportions, percentages and area. Ability to apply concepts of basic mathematics. Ability to apply some basic accounting principles.

 Language Skills:

 

  • Ability to read, understand and interpret documents such as safety rules and requirements, machine manuals of operation and process procedures. Ability to write information including reports. Ability to speak effectively to customers, coworkers and vendors.

  • The noise level in the work environment for this position is low. This position may be out in the field on job sites on occasion as well as in the office.
  • Employees performing functions of this position are frequently exposed to outside weather conditions which can include but is not limited to: extreme heat and cold temperatures; inclement weather such as rain, snow, sleet and dust as well as adverse driving conditions including wet roads, icy roads, and fog.
  • Employees performing these job functions are required to lift or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Employees may be exposed to toxic or corrosive chemicals as well as moving machinery parts and pieces.
  • Specific vision abilities required to perform this job include but are not limited to: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus potentially near and/or far as needed.

Pay Range: Annual salary range for the Sr Manager Telecom position is $90,000 - $110,000, depending on experience.
