The Supervisor GIS will lead efforts to utilize the skills of GIS teammates. This includes gathering and analyzing geographic data in support of business needs and opportunities across multiple departments including design, construction, billing, and management. They must have analytical skills to act as a bridge between the business and their understanding of the data they interact with. As such the GIS Supervisor must be a strong communicator that creates ongoing synergy between stakeholders and the GIS team in order to gain the most value from their skill sets. An important component of this position is to create and mentor others to develop documentation of their tools and workflows for future use and reference.

 

Under general direction of the GIS Manager; manages, designs, documents, coordinates, plans, implements and participates in the input, update, and maintenance of data for the Geographic Information System (GIS); manages project teams; identifies resources and establishes project objectives and timelines; and develops standards for GIS deployment and use.

What you’ll do

  • Provides subject matter expertise, training and fundamental system support on geospatial issues.
  •  Manages analysts and technicians within the department.
  •  Mentors the activities of GIS Technicians, including support for analytical mapping jobs for production; provides support and assistance for extra workload as needed.
  •  Develops and implements the best processes for tackling project requirements.
  •  Supports the day to day delivery of geospatial products and services.
  •  Runs geospatial analysis for a wide range of requests.
  •  Ensures workflows with various internal departments are accurate and documented
  •  Assists Mapping Center GIS Manager, Specialist, and GIS Team Leads with training and communications efforts for both the team and internal clients.
  •  Enhance existing GIS capabilities by seeking opportunities for improvement of existing methods, tools, or workflows
  •  Establishes productive relationships among collaborating departments for GIS projects.
  •  Protects the integrity of the GIS data and applications.
  •  Assures that data quality standards are consistently enforced.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures relating to GIS system maintenance, operations, and services.
  •  Oversees entry of data into database, including application of coordinate geometry, keyboard entry of tabular data, manual digitizing of maps, scanning and automatic conversion to vectors, and conversion of other sources of digital data.
  •  May train staff on use of applications.
  • Schedule and submit workload to meet critical engineering design due dates.
  • Supervise and work with engineering staff to perform daily assigned tasks as related to specific functions that may include any combination of drawings, review of, or the creation / update of drawings.
  • Create designs of feeder and distribution cable facilities using appropriate tools.
  • Preparation of necessary permits for OSP facilities, feeder Route and distribution Analysis/Administration and development of appropriate feeder route strategies and solutions for feeder relief.
  • General clerical duties, tasks or special projects as occasionally required or assigned.  
  • Maintain safe working habits/conditions according to regulations and policies.

What you’ll need

  • Authorization to work in the United States for this company
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and company drug screening.
  • Must be able to attend and pass all company required training as needed.
  • May be required to work after hours; on weekends or be on-call as work is needed.  
  • Regular and timely attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills with both internal and external customers.

 

Additional qualifications 

 

  • Minimum of High School Diploma or GED
  • Working knowledge of Esri Arc GIS, and 3-GIS Software in a utility or utility related environment ( 5-7 Years experience)
  • Esri ArcGIS 10.2x – advanced proficiency
  • MS Office suite (Access, Excel, Word) – advanced proficiency
  • Esri ArcMap Enterprise – intermediate proficiency
  • Python – intermediate proficiency
  • SQL – intermediate proficiency
  • AutoCAD/CADD – intermediate proficiency
  • Visual Basic/VBA – intermediate proficiency
  • PowerBI - advanced proficiency
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (GIS, Geography, Urban Planning, Computer Science) or 7+ years’ related experience.
  • Proficient in the use of hardware and software (PCs, Tablets, IKE, ArcMap, Ocalc Pro, CAD, ArcGIS, Google, etc.)
  • Advanced proficieny in assigned function (Drafting, Designing, Make Ready, Geographic Information Systems, etc.)
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug screen, background, and motor vehicle record check.

 

Minimum Experience Requirements:

 

  • High School Graduate or equivalent; Associate’s Degree preferred
  • Knowledge of Telecommunication Construction and Project related work
  • Certifications in successful bid estimations preferred
  • Any combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates ability to perform the designated job duties and responsibilities of the position.

 

Reasoning Ability:

 

  • Ability to make common sense understanding to carry out instructions that are provided in written, oral or drawing. Ability to deal with and understand problems involving different variables in many varied situations. Ability to collect, organize, disseminate and analyze significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.

 Mathematical Skills:

 

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts (measurements in terms of distance, proportions, percentages and area. Ability to apply concepts of basic mathematics including algebra and geometry.

 Language Skills:

 

  • Ability to read, understand and interpret documents such as safety rules and requirements, machine manuals of operation and process procedures. Ability to write information including reports. Ability to speak effectively to customers, vendors and coworkers up through all levels of management and staff. Ability to interface with the public as needed for business on behalf of company

Software Requirements:

 

  • Must have strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Must have general computer knowledge.

Pay Range: The Annual wage range for the Supervisor GSI role is $68,000 - $75,000 depending on experience.
