Under general supervision, the OSP Engineering Technician is responsible for designing outside plant work orders and providing administrative support. May also provide field engineering support.

What you’ll do

  • Design outside plant work orders.
  • Prepare work order drawings and documentation, updating work order records in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Provide work order estimated expenditures and/or placement and joint use memos.
  • Coordinate with drafting and GIS personnel located in remote offices to produce construction drawings to be used to construct the network
  • Planning, designing, and obtaining permits for new cable routes
  • May also conduct field engineering to include site surveys, field data collection, note taking, and aerial and underground fiber optic route designs.

What you’ll need

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2 to 5 years of Telecom Outside Plant Engineering experience
  • The successful candidate will have a working knowledge of the telecommunications industry standards, practices and regulations pertaining to the engineering of fiber optic outside plant facilities
  • Knowledge of aerial and underground construction methods and engineering requirements
  • Knowledge of infrastructure plans and survey information for the elimination and prevention of conflicts with existing or proposed underground, site obstacles, and for proper installation location within easements and public rights of way
  • Knowledge of fiber optic counts, fiber assignments, and splicing schematics in a high density fiber environment is strongly preferred
  • Candidate must be familiar with general permitting requirements for State Department of Transportation, as well as other state, county and city permitting agencies
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD/Microstation drafting software or Geographic Information Systems is considered a plus
  • Strong organizational skills and experience with Excel and Word
  • Effective communication skills and professional accountability

Other Requirements:

  • Must possess, or obtain upon employment, a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and company drug screening.
  • Must be able to attend and pass all company required training as needed.
  • May be required to work after hours; on weekends or be on-call as work is needed.  
  • Regular and timely attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills with both internal and external customers.

Pay Range: The Technician Engineer Field position pays an hourly wage of $20.00 - $30.00, depending on experience.
