Professional Teleconcepts is seeking a highly technical, road-warrior RCDD Project Engineer to serve as the primary on-site technical authority during the execution phase of large-scale telecommunications and structured cabling projects. This is a 100% traveling position where you will deploy directly to active mission-critical construction sites nationwide, moving from project to project as phases conclude.

 

This role shifts the RCDD focus from the office to the field. You will act as the crucial bridge between the engineering design team and the on-site construction crews, ensuring that all physical layer deployments (ISP/OSP) strictly adhere to uncompromising BICSI, TIA/EIA, and NEC standards in real-world conditions. You will solve complex physical clashes, authorize field modifications, and guarantee a zero-defect environment through to final client handover.

What you’ll do

Essential Functions

  • On-Site Technical Authority: Serve as the definitive on-site engineering resource during active project execution, guiding project managers, foremen, and technicians through complex telecommunications builds.

  • Field Engineering & Adaptation: Interpret and validate initial structured cabling designs against actual field conditions. Authorize and document necessary deviations, ensuring field modifications do not compromise system performance, budget, or code compliance.

  • Construction Quality Control: Enforce comprehensive quality standards for high-density fiber placement, copper distribution, rack/cabinet elevations, and telecom pathway sizing directly on the construction floor.

  • RFI & Submittal Management: Rapidly process Requests for Information (RFIs) and technical submittals, actively resolving structural or MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) clashes discovered during installation..

  • Closeout & As-Builts: Direct the compilation of comprehensive final documentation, including marked-up as-built drawings, test result packages, and warranty certifications for final client turnover.

  • Client & Trade Coordination: Interface directly with general contractors, architects, client representatives, and third-party commissioning agents on-site to defend technical decisions and coordinate deployment schedules.

 

Salary for this role is $110,000-$150,000 depending on experience

What you’ll need

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Industry Certifications: Active BICSI RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) certification is strictly required.

  • Construction Expertise: Deep practical understanding of active construction environments, MEP coordination, and reading complex architectural blueprints and schematics.

  • Analytical Problem-Solving: Highly developed ability to value-engineer and redesign telecom infrastructure on the fly when faced with unforeseen physical barriers.

  • Communication: Executive-level verbal and written communication skills, capable of delivering firm, constructive technical direction to field personnel and negotiating with high-level client stakeholders.

 

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Setting & Travel: This is a 100% travel position. The engineer will be deployed to active construction sites, relocating from project to project as assigned.

  • Hours: Must maintain a flexible schedule aligned with active construction hours, which may include extended shifts, weekends, or night work to support critical cutovers or external audits.

  • Physicality: Field site deployment requires the ability to extensively navigate active construction zones, adhere to strict PPE requirements, climb ladders, and inspect overhead trays or under raised floors.
