At RJE Telecom, as an OSP Engineering Field Technician in Charlottesville, VA, you’ll design and manage outside plant (OSP) work orders and drawings under general supervision.   You'll also coordinate with the drafting and GIS teams.  Additionally, you will plan and permit new cable routes.

This is a hybrid position in Charlottesville, VA.  Candidates must live in the Charlottesville, VA area to be considered for this position.  You will make site visits in the Charlottesville, VA area as assigned to collect data for design of OSP work orders.

 

What you’ll do

  • Design and prepare outside plant work orders and associated drawings, including documentation and accurate record updates
  • Provide estimates for work order expenditures and prepare placement, as well as joint use memos
  • Coordinate with drafting and GIS personnel in remote offices to produce construction drawings for the network
  • Plan, design, and obtain permits for new cable routes
  • Design aerial and underground telecommunications plant routes
  • Other duties as assigned

What you’ll need

  • To be 18 years of age or older
  • Authorization to work in the United States for this company
  • High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience
  • Verizon OSP Engineering Field Technician experience
  • At least two (2) years of Telecom outside plant engineering experience
  • Valid state driver's license (cannot be Provisional), including an acceptable driving record
  • Proficient with Excel and Word

Knowledge of

  • Telecommunication industry standards
  • Regulations for OSP facilities
  • Aerial and underground construction methods and engineering requirements
  • Infrastructure plans and surveys to avoid conflicts with underground obstacles to ensure proper installation in easements and public use rights of way
  • Government permit requirements
  • Fiber optic counts, assignments, and splicing schematics in high-density environments
  • AutoCAD/Microstation and Geographic Information Systems


Physical abilities & exposures

  • Routinely: Work alone in remote locations, operate vehicle, walk, use keyboard and mouse
  • Occasionally: climb stairs and stand
