What you’ll do
- Perform fiber splicing using fusion splicers, cleavers, and related tools for both aerial and underground fiber-optic systems.
- Complete cable upgrades, mid-sheath entries, and replacement or installation of new fiber sheaths.
- Access, cut, and repair faulty fiber connections by removing sheath and insulation from existing and newly installed cables.
- Use OTDR, light source, and power meter equipment to test, activate, and verify the performance, signal strength, and quality of fiber circuits.
- Troubleshoot and repair fiber networks to restore or maintain top-level performance, including storm or damage restoration.
- Ensure all splicing, testing, and activation tasks meet customer, industry, and company standards.
- Read, interpret, and mark up splice diagrams, network maps, and construction drawings to ensure accuracy in all work performed.
- Maintain accurate documentation, including daily production reports, map updates, and material usage records.
- Perform routine maintenance on company vehicles, splicing trailers, and equipment (including daily fluid checks).
- Support, mentor, and provide guidance to other team members while promoting a safe, productive, and professional job site.
- Represent Bigham Cable Construction with professionalism, integrity, and pride in all tasks performed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What you’ll need
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Authorized to work in the United States.
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
- Valid, non-provisional state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to pass a DOT physical exam and maintain a valid medical card.
- Previous fiber splicing experience.
- Strong understanding of telecommunications network structures and fiber-optic splicing standards.
- Ability to work on both aerial and underground fiber systems.
- Skilled in reading and interpreting maps, splice plans, diagrams, and construction drawings.
- Certified pole climber or ability to demonstrate pole-climbing proficiency (preferred).
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and accuracy in all work.
- Routinely able to operate vehicles and heavy equipment; perform repetitive hand motions; work independently in remote locations; reach overhead; bend, stoop, stand, walk, and climb stairs; and lift more than 55 pounds.
- Occasionally able to work in confined spaces; climb poles using ladders or gaffs; and use computer equipment for documentation.
- Available to work Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime or weekend work as needed
