Our Training and Development Team plays a critical role in supporting our Field Technicians as well as our Operations partners and Center Managers. As a result, we hold ourselves to high standards and expectations. The Sr. Technical Trainer reports directly to the Manager of Technical Training. In this role, the ideal candidate will be highly organized with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, while delivering quality instruction to new Field Technicians along with experienced Field Technicians. The Sr. Technical Trainer will provide direct learning support and training delivery to our Field technicians & Utility Line Locators primarily via an online platform along with Field Training. They will create learning experiences that support our business objectives and industry standards, using a variety of learning methodologies in partnership with UtiliQuest teams including Operations, HR, Safety, Fleet, Quality, Risk Management, and external Clients.
The Sr. Technical Trainer will deliver training within their assigned region to a variety of employee groups and provide support to other centers, regions, or states across the organization, as needed, including via virtual platforms. Our team is responsible for delivering a portfolio of learning programs at various stages of development in offices across North America. You will work with other learning professionals and faculty to manage all stages of program delivery of both virtual and in-person learning programs including pre, onsite and post-program management.

What you’ll do
● Mentor, coach, and support trainers to ensure consistent delivery, effective facilitation, and ongoing professional development across the training team.
● Deliver engaging, high-quality training to both in-person and virtual audiences.
● Support new and existing contracts through operational start-ups, workforce development, and large-scale training initiatives.
● Design, develop, and deliver training materials using tools such as PowerPoint, Word, and other instructional technologies aligned to learning objectives.
● Evaluate trainee performance by auditing work, conducting Technical Proficiency Observations and Job Safety Observations (JSOs), identifying skill gaps, and implementing targeted training solutions.
● Provide constructive feedback and apply training interventions to prepare employees for successful field performance.
● Ensure consistency and effectiveness of hands-on utility and locate training across regions.
● Collaborate with subject matter experts and instructional design teams to develop and enhance training programs.
● Coordinate training schedules and offerings with training leadership and regional management.
● Serve as a regional technical training resource, providing field support during high-demand periods.
● Contribute to damage investigations by identifying training-related root causes and recommending prevention strategies.
● Stay current on emerging training methodologies, technologies, and best practices.
● Travel up to 50% to support regional and company-wide training initiatives.
● Perform other duties as assigned.
What you’ll need
● High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
● Minimum of three (3) years of experience in underground utility locating or a combination of related field experience.
● Proven ability to train, coach, and mentor both new and experienced trainers, driving consistent instructional delivery, improving facilitation effectiveness, and supporting ongoing professional development.
● Strong communication, interpersonal, facilitation, and leadership skills.
● Demonstrated commitment to safety and adherence to high safety standards.
● Solid knowledge of industry standards, field practices, and damage prevention protocols.
● Proficient in the use of current utility locating equipment and technologies.
● Ability to deliver training with professionalism in both in-person and virtual environments.
● Experience managing virtual/online classroom platforms to support effective learning.
● Strong technical aptitude, including the ability to learn new systems, software, and troubleshoot basic technical issues.
● Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and general computer applications.
● Willingness and ability to travel as needed to support training initiatives.
The wage range for Sr Technical Trainer is $70,000.00 - $85,000.00.
