VCI Construction LLC is seeking a skilled and highly analytical Assistant Controller to
join our accounting and finance team at our Upland, California headquarters. This
position plays a key role in supporting the Controller in managing the company’s
financial operations, ensuring accurate reporting, and driving efficiency through data
analysis and process improvement.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and thrives in a collaborative
environment. You’ll be involved in all aspects of accounting — from journal entries and
reconciliations to financial statement preparation, job costing, and audit support. This is
an on-site position, offering the opportunity to work closely with operations, project

What you’ll do

  • Support the Controller in managing daily accounting operations, financial
    reporting, and month-end closings.
  • Work closely with project managers to analyze job costs, profitability, and project
    performance.
  • Develop and improve reporting tools, spreadsheets, and financial models using
    advanced Excel functions and Google Sheets.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve data
    accuracy.
  •  Provide insights and recommendations to management based on trend analysis
    and financial results.
  • Take charge of special projects and assist management with ad hoc reporting
    requests as needed.
  • Prepare and post journal entries and ensure the accuracy of general ledger data.
  • Assist with aging report reviews to maintain accurate records and proper cash
    flow management.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, reconciliations, job cost reports, and
    variance analyses.
  • Maintain compliance with GAAP and internal accounting controls.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

What you’ll need

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA a plus).
  •  7+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in construction,
    utilities, or a related industry.
  • Advanced Excel proficiency (pivot tables, complex formulas, data modeling, etc.)
    required.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with construction accounting software (e.g., Microsoft Dynamic
    Solomon, SAP S/4 Hana) preferred.
  • Solid understanding of job costing, WIP, and project accounting principles.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.

The wage range for Assistant Controller is $100,000.00  - $120,000.00.
